I apologize. I’ve been in the states now for a good two days and I have yet to post pics, I hope you can forgive me. I should have the pics up by this weekend because I’m sure everyone is dying to see them (amuse me). The trip was glorious, I enjoyed every minute of it. I even enjoyed the not-so happy moments.
A little adventure, a little disappointment, a lot beautiful sites, and plenty of food. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I’m not the best at story telling so I’ll let the pictures say the most.
Speaking of pictures there’s a great new browser (not entirely new) that’s called Flock. It’s actually been around for sometime but my good friend Will brought it back to my attention. It’s a browser that works well with social websites and makes it easier for you to add comments with pics from your personal online photo galleries.
Oh yeah, did I mention I graduated … eek. I graduated at 35,000 feet in the air … needless to say I was a little light headed. Kara surprised me with a small gift that made my flight that much better. Most people walk for graduation, I like to think that I flew.
Ok, I’ve only got 2 mins left. Using the internet here is hard. It’s just madness … everyone one wants to charge you an arm and a leg. So far we’ve had some good times and some bad times. Credit card eating, mad weather with mudslides. We’ve also had good things such as 4 wheel driving across the island beautiful views and some pretty good (meaty) food. I’d love to talk some more but I think I’m almost out.
It’s Monday here in Greece, about 5 in the morning. In Houston time it’s about 1opm, craziness … I know. I don’t have much time to spare because my internet card has about 14 mins on it. The first minutes are being shared with my room mate and the rest of my time was spent sending emails to family.
I just wanted to let everyone else out there know that I’m safe and sound. Thank you Benita and Viri for your voicemails, that morning was a little hectic and I apologize yet again for not calling-back.
The internet here is crap which is probably why I won’t be able to upload too many photos. I hope I can get one up here and there if I’m lucky. The food’s great so far and the sites are glorious. Woot! A week of archs and columns, can’t wait!
Time and time again I have tried to sell my friends on the idea of RSS and why it is so cool. Then comes the obligatory face of confusion where they try to to analyze what’s wrong with me. Props to Kelsy for the video, and my home-girl Katie Laird for discovering it.
If you’ve ever wondered how I manage to scope the web so quickly and get so much out of it, here is your answer. Notice that my blog has feeds for entries and comments on the right hand side (feed section).
I’m at school and I just thought this was worth mentioning. My friend Will is a programmer, but he just spent an hour printing out 1 copy of his report. I thought it was funny and worth mentioning.
Also, my mom yesterday was so excited about ordering the “fight” on paper view that she accidently purchased some porn first. Nice.
My senior project is not completely finished and still needs some touch-up work. This post and those links are provided for you to visit the site, create an account, login and pretty much play with the system if you’d like. Note: you don’t have to login to visit the website, but you do get more features. Feedback is always, always, always appreciated.
I had my presentation just this week and it all went very well, my professors can’t wait to have this new site up as soon as it’s finished. It’s nice to know that I’m leaving something behind.
Just a thought
Now if you read this previous post “wordpress 2.1,” I mentioned that the system being used to manage that content was not mine. That I used wordpress, to manage my content.
I’m happy to announce that the system for http://uhd.eloyz.com just happens to be my very first self-built content management system. I’d never made one before, but it turned out semi-descent. The new UHD website runs a lot like the way this current website runs (contributors will probably understand best).
I’m honestly considering rebuilding this blog or eloyz.com for that matter with my own custom cms system. “What does it matter eloy?” Well, if I design this using my own stuff this website can do anything and I mean anything your little hearts desire and my tiny brain can learn.
It’s just one of those ideas that might just come true. My boss said today that ideas are next to nothing, it’s the execution that means everything. I agree with him and have said it plenty of times myself, but it’s not nice to quote yourself.
blog.eloyz.com has updated it’s wordpress. What does this mean?
If you’re a contributor, then you’ll notice some updated features when trying to add or manage an article.
Now easier to switch from visual and code view when writing an article
Better file management, so that you can keep up with that video or picture you uploaded
On the fly comment management
Less code, that does the same work … which just means it’s faster (less prone to break)
I realize that it’s not really very beneficial to those who just come to the site to view, but believe me it is. If it’s easier for us to add content, then it’s more likely that we’ll add more. Which in turn makes you happy, which in turn makes us happy, and I would “in turn” one more time but then I’d be dizzy.

Wordpress is the system that helps blog.eloyz.com manage all this wonderful content. “You mean you didn’t build all of this eloy?” No, I’m afraid I didn’t. I merely “configured and installed it.” I am glad to say that the design is an edit that I did to an existing template that lives within wordpress.
Don’t worry though, this old dog is getting better by the minute … and as long as you keep reading I’ll make sure to keep those updates coming. Updates worth visiting, I promise.
