BarCamp

BarCamp -A place where bars go to get fit.

No, it’s geek conference.

BarCamp is an ad-hoc technology gathering for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction with attendees.

It is going to be in Bryan/College Station today visit the BarCamp web site to see the schedule. Oh wait its the “unconference.” If you’re in town swing by and say hi, maybe I can get you a discount at the LaSalle Hotel.

Air Houston Competition

This past weekend I was in an Air Houston Competition. Programmers (me) build NPO (non profit organization) websites in one day. Very nerve racking but lots of fun, and overall it’s just nice because you’re giving back to the community.

We build highly-accessible sites. Visit knowbility.org for more information on how internet is for everyone.

Below is a picture of Katie expressing her feelings towards the Air Houston Competition.

Kiva.org - Loans that Change Lives

If you’re a giver check out Kiva.org Kiva allows you to give loans on a one-on-one basis. You search through a list of entreprenuers where you’ll find out details about where they live, their names, what they would like the loan for, and when they need to repay you.

An interesting twist on donating to a ’cause that takes out the ambiguity of where your money actually ends up. Kiva allows you to easily keep up with your family and find out exactly where your money is being used. Kiva does not take any of your loan for their own cause, but does allow you to donate in case you’d like to support Kiva. The members of the Kiva community can also keep journals which allows you to learn more about your contributions and the life style your new found friend.

University of Florida Student Tasered at Kerry Rally

I like this video more because it shows you what happened before the police arrest.

Although this video is much clearer.

I agree that he was a little loud and obnoxious, but when did that become illegal. Also, why did he get pulled … he was asking a question. I guess Kerry can only answer questions he likes. I guess I just think there was a much cleaner way of removing the student if there was a reason in the first place. You be the judge.

Airport Security checks Nun

Just a bizarre picture worth sharing. I can’t imagine this scenario 40 years ago, it’s amazing how far we’ve come. A female Muslim agent checks a nun for weapons in an airport with the American flag spread proudly on the back wall. I do believe this is the first time I’ve ever seen all of these things  all at once.
