iPod First Impression

Ok, first and foremost, I don’t have one. I just came back from Michigan a day ago and the trip was fantabulous. I learned a lot, took a different perspective, saw some sites, and more importantly stretched my legs. While there I happened to run into one of the “lucky ones” who managed to buy the iPhone. I spoke with him for a while, their name is not important (ok I just don’t remember what it is). Please excuse me for drooling over the phone, I think he stopped talking to me because of my heavy breathing.

My first impression of the phone is that it’s a lot smaller that I had originally anticipated. Super-thin and super slick and shiny (metal and glass from what I heard and saw), no plastic. Both glass and metal are suppose to be extremely strong and thick. It’s got a super shiny LCD display, it puts all current mobile phone displays to shame. From what I understand, 100% setting for the LCD can actually double the phone as a mag-light. Test at your own discretion.

Flaws include a non-standard headset jack … not sure if this was intentional (big flaw in my book). The browser handles all major HTML “code” except for your standard flash. It will handle flv’s though (Flash Video), the stuff that youTube and Google Video use. The power supply is more than powerful for yor typical phone but might be a little short in energy when it comes to the excessive features offered by the iPhone itself.

Currently there is no news about the iPhone reducing in price anytime soon, but there has been mention that they will be offering some type of API that will allow all developers to make programs for the o-so-shiny phone. Another beauty for current web-developers is that most web2.0 applications are compatible with it. Great! What does this mean!?

It means that all those great web-sites that you enjoy so much can (for the most part) continue to create applications that work in both your traditional website and iPhone (e.g. Flickr, MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, GMail, etc …) Pretty much anything that is groovy online.

I’m very undecided as to whether I want to cough up the cash to fund one of these babies, but if I do make my choice you’ll be the first to know. That is after I tell my brain of course. Want more info read ahead, and stop drooling on the keyboard.

Google and Microsoft OooOo’s

Google has managed to put a new perspective on online maps.
Check out this great piece of art

Now you get an actual view of what that area looks like, scary but still pretty cool. Here’s some crazy images others have managed to find.

RSS and Why it Rocks

Click To Play

Time and time again I have tried to sell my friends on the idea of RSS and why it is so cool. Then comes the obligatory face of confusion where they try to to analyze what’s wrong with me. Props to Kelsy for the video, and my home-girl Katie Laird for discovering it.

If you’ve ever wondered how I manage to scope the web so quickly and get so much out of it, here is your answer. Notice that my blog has feeds for entries and comments on the right hand side (feed section).

Picnik

The nicest, easiest, web-based photo editing application I’ve ever seen. Now you can crop, rotate, remove red eye and much more for free! No more photoshop, or expensive editing software. If you’re looking for a quick and easy photo fix then Picnik is for you.

I’ve had plenty of friends requesting something like this for some time now. Enjoy.
