Which allows you to easily download “flv” versions of your favorite youtube videos. That’s right, I said you can download youtube videos. Of course, this is only beneficial if you’re able to play flv’s right from your desktop.
Small eloyz.com update. Now the front page displays more of … well … “you.” It’s the smallest update in the world, but it’s worth mentioning because we don’t get many updates around here. There’s a small section on the sidebar (right) that displays the latest 5 comments that have been created (by you).
Good idea, but not enough follow through, I originally set up comments to display the title that was being commented on. After a long while I noticed this was a bit boring because if 5 people posted on the latest comment, all you would get is the same title over and over again.
This would be great for search engine optimization, but the truth is I honestly don’t spend enough time trying to create keyword relevant titles. Enough with the technical (boring) stuff, now it just displays the beginning piece of the latest comments you’ve made. So now everyone can can easily see what your bright little mind has to say as soon as they walk in the front door (wipe your feet).
Latest Comments
As most of you may have noticed, there is a new section on the side bar named “latest comments.” If you haven’t figured it out by now, it simply displays who made the last 5 comments.
I added this tiny feature because I noticed that friends would make comments on articles that are not-so-new and those comment would go unread or even worse, unnoticed. That ain’t right. So now seeing the latest comment is just a glance away.
Easier Login
If you “login” and you come back to the frontpage, you can’t “login” anymore. The only option you have is to logout and re-login unless you remember the url to the admin page. I’m lazy just like everyone else, and unless it’s convenient … I’ll usually avoid it. With that in mind I’ve started an easier login process.
A login link is now available at the top of the sidebar right about the “about” section. Clicking on this link will take you to the login page and holding “ALT+L” will also take you to the login page. Try it now … do it … do it now. The link only displays on the front page, but the ALT+L shortcut should work anywhere in blog.eloyz.com.
Holy ba-jesus it worked. The software used to update the articles. The stuff you guys see when you actually write something on my page is now easier than ever to work with. Giving you more options, more flexibility, and user friendly controls and you didn’t have to do anything. As you can see from the url, the location of the blog has moved to blog.eloyz.com, which makes much more sense.
It’s almost like somebody slipped you a mickey or something, you turn your back on this site once and blam! I know what you’re thinking … how does this affect me. Well if it’s easier to write articles then it should entice more writing. Not to mention that the default location eloyz.com can be used for more than just talking. Ok, maybe I’m more excitied about this than anyone else.
I guess I’ll just give you something to click on, learn how to start a fire with a coke can and a chocolate bar.
A lot of little things have happened this week so I thought I’d catch you up. First and fore-most I’ve got a new job, but I don’t start it until another two weeks. I need to give my current “legal-pimping” job it’s well deserved time. I am going to miss the company, as much of a hard-time as I gave my boss.
I’m also going to be updating + moving this section of the site. What I consider the “blogging” section. If you look at the url right now it’s “eloyz.com/wordpress,” soon it should be “blog.eloyz.com.” I’m doing it for convience ’cause I think it’s uh …. convienent for a lot of little reasons. I promise to attempt to make this transition as painless as possible. Worst-case-scenario, I lose all the information and we have to start this blog from scratch. Yes that means everyone would have to re-register for permission to post. Although I promise to try my “bestestestest” to stop that from happening. Best case scenario everything will switch around and you won’t even have a clue.
I’m adding more catagories every now and then according to the articles you guys posts, so that if you just want to see one type of article you can. Just one of thos organization nitches you’re gonna have to live with. So if you can think of more catagories you’d like to see … let me know.
If you’re not a poster (article writer, someone who posts) yet, but would like to be please register yourself. I know what you’re thinking … I have nothing to say and the register process is long and I’m lazy. That’s all a lie, first-off everyone has something to say — “I’m giving you permission to speak your mind” … most people are always worried about not being heard … this is definitely your chance. As far as the registration process goes, it’s a sintch, you’ll be done before you know it … I promise.
Erick, Imelda, and Beni … I haven’t forgotten about you. I still want to build your sites so if you’re reading this, please contact me or leave a comment. I can’t promse that I’ll spear-head our project, but baby-steps are always good.
Last but not least, if you likes belts — and I know I do and if you also like ipods — eh’. Then you’ll love this.
Well I’m glad that more people are posting. I was afraid that everyone ran away for a minute. This is just an update to let everyone know that you should be able to post now incase you weren’t able to before and that you can now see the author who posted the article and time they posted it at. Small details, I know … but they matter. If you haven’t become a poster (author) yet please leave a comment and I’ll hook you up … maybe. On another note, I somehow killed the “Learn a Word” by accident. Back to the drawing board.
Here at eloyz.com we offer a lot to our viewers. Ok, well actually we don’t … but we should. What’s all this reading good for if there isn’t some sort of learning process. We’re here to feed both our curiousity and knowledge. For this one reason, and other small reasons I’ve decided to add “Learn a Word,” only god (ala) knows how long this ideal will last but it’s worth a try no? I’ll “attempt” to include a new word for your vocabulary every now-and-then when I give a post. I know what you’re thinking … “woot,” it’s not something big but hey … it’s free right … and free is always good.
Ok here’s the story. As most of you know I work for a company that does … “stuff.” Along with that “stuff” I also get to do some webwork. My boss gave me yet another site to build. The only real difference with the site from the others is that it had to use a “database.” Something I was extremely unfamiliar with. That’s not to say that I’m an expert now, but I’ve learned a little and I’m a-liken’. The site is about 90% built and it has to be the first site I’ve completely built from scratch and did entirely in code view. That’s right a couple of days at looking at straight code. I know most of you are like so, but to me it’s huge deal ’cause I didn’t think it was possible to just stare at code and see the picture in your head.
Moving on … I took a look at my code and man was it ugly. Of course at the time when I first built it I thought it was the greatest thing since the McRib. Ok … I know what a lot of you are saying now, who cares what the code looks like as long as the page looks cool. Well that’s just the thing, it’s hard to fix, update, and upgrade something when it looks like crap on the inside. Sure the cars pretty, but don’t open that hood. Point being I’m re-evaluting eloyz.com once again. I think most of you can agree that it needed some sort of a boob face lift. I can only promise that this change will bring more good than bad.
For those of you who use to post on the old site, you have not been forgotten. I will be re-hiring “most” of you to this new empire shorty.
It’s almost 2am right now, should be asleep. I’m messing with this “wordpress” program ’cause it seems interesting and something I might enjoy learning from. I haven’t decided yet if I want to fully convert to this “software” it’s doing a pretty good job of convincing me though. For the most part I seem to like the program, the only reason I really haven’t grown into it yet is probably because I don’t know enough about it yet all that well. Or atleast that’s what I’m assuming. Ok, that’s all for now. I’ll continue to learn and do my best to convince myself.
Here we go again. Yet another big edit to the eloyz.com domain. Ok well maybe not a huge change, but still it’s a change. I’ve been using a content manager for the last year or so that’s done me good. It’s given me an idea of what’s possible with an interatice (non-static) website. I likes. I never thought updating sites could be so easy. I’m going to attempt to switch my content manager because I feel this new one has more to offer. Unfortunantly you’re probably going to have to deal with my learning curve once again. So without further … blah … here we go.
