The Big Show 2006

This post is for Frankie … she’s a kick-ass girl who does too much … slow down girl! She interned this summer at Lawndale Art Center and has been working all Summer Long for this “Big” event. Any artist within 100 miles of Houston with $15 bucks can enter … not all entries will be accepted … so it’ll be interesting to see what gets displayed. It’s called “The Big Show 2006,” and the following paragraph can explain it better …
Not little by any means, ‘The Big Show’ is Lawndale Art Center’s annual open-call, juried exhibition. Held this year from July 21-August 25, the show has been an important venue through which emerging and under represented Houston area artists gain exposure since the show’s conception in 1984. This year’s Big Show is curated by Dominic Molon, the Pamela Alper Associate Curator for the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. In 2005, The Big Show drew in over 700 submissions by 329 area artists living within 100 miles of Houston, and the selected exhibition consisted of 113 art works by 74 artists. The opening reception will be held on July 21 from 6:30PM-8:30PM. — Alice Hicks
